This year's event drew 300 runners and walkers to Quaker Steak and Lube out in Middleton, WI.  Like last year the temps were frigid but the spirits were high!  It's hard to believe so many dedicated people would start their year out this way but ASGM certainly appreciates the $700 raised at the event.

We hope more ASGM members and their families can participate in the event on January 1, 2010.  Start getting those running teams together in preparation for the next event!

ASGM Free Workshop on April 21, 2009

"Promoting Social Relationships, Learning and

Inclusion through Peer Support Strategies"

Dr. Erik Carter, Asst. Professor at the UW Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education, presented the results of some research about the important roles peers can play in supporting meaningful social and academic participation in inclusive classrooms and extracurricular activities.  Schools often rely on individually assigned paraprofessionals or special educators to support school participation.  Yet, these one-to-one support approaches often inadvertently hinder meaningful inclusion.  Dr. Carter shared research support for peer support strategies as an alternative to individually assigned adult support and practical resources for implementing these interventions in school settings. VERY fascinating presentation and we thank him for his time.

ASGM is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization as a local chapter of the Autism Society of America.
