Professor at the UW Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education, presented the results of some research about the important roles peers can play in supporting meaningful social and academic participation in inclusive classrooms and extracurricular activities. Schools often rely on individually assigned paraprofessionals or special educators to support school participation. Yet, these one-to-one support approaches often inadvertently hinder meaningful inclusion. Dr. Carter shared research support for peer support strategies as an alternative to individually assigned adult support and practical resources for implementing these interventions in school settings. VERY fascinating presentation and we thank him for his time. |
